K-pop: Girls’ Generation

After having talked Taeyeon, Tiffany and Hyoyeon and Jessica it’s time to talk about one of the most famous and iconic group in the K-POP and not only: the Girl’s Generation.

Founded in 2006, the group was composed by nine members: Taeyeon, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Jessuna, Sunny, Yoona, Yuri, Seohyun and Sooyoung. Since day one, they have written pages of pages of K-Pop history. Don’t you believe me? Well, Allkpop made a pretty long list about it. Here i give you just a couple:

97 million recorded sales (best-selling Asian girl group of all time) and among the three best-selling girl groups in the world; Gee is the most downloaded idol group song in the history of South Korea and at least 6.75 million pure sales worldwide the most downloaded girl group song of all time; In 2011 and 2015, no other girl group in the world sold more records than Girls’ Generation.

Despite the number and the records broken, i have a unique feeling with this group, because thaks to those nine girls i found out the existance of K-Pop back in 2010. It was love at the first sight: between the coreography, the sound, the language, the girls themselves my brain was blown away. I have never seen something so fascinating. And i even remember the song that day: it was “Run Devil Run“, a song i should never loved as a man. I heard that literally hundred of times and every time was like the first one. Even now, after 14 years, this song stucks in my head, like a sweet dream!

But Run Devil Run was just another hit. The very breaktrough point was with Gee. Oh, that song and that moves wrote History, because thank to that song that “Girls Generation Mania” exploded. It was a success after the other and for me, every time my love for them got bigger and bigger. Oh!, Hoot, Mr.Taxy, The Boys, Mr. Mr, I Got a Boy all of them have stolen my heart! Then, after Jessica’s departure in 2013, poeple started to talk about the “end of Girls Generation” and i way a little bit worried about too. But were went wrong, because between Catch Me if You Can, You Think, Party, Lion Heart, All Night and Holiday they prooved they are still amazing, even with “only” 8 members, even if they become eight wonderful women!

Wha’t amazing is how cool, fresh, sexy and amazing they look even if the get older and the music videos: these are insane! i could actually watch all the music video over and over again until i die!

However after 12 years, other three member have decided to leave the group: Tiffany, Seohyun and Sooyoung: the first stil sings, the second is ad actress now and the third a model. It looked really the end of an era for K-Pop and maybe it is (BlackPink has now taken the throne). However the five reaminig meember (Sunny, Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, Yoona and Yuri) came baack together with one last song: Lil’ Touch, a very amazing song! I really think that they will never day and this legacy will be written forever in the music history!

I am and i will always be in love with that tremendous group of talent and amzing women!

Mauro.

      1. They are very good. In fact, some are exceptional – world class. Here is a link to kfangurl:

In my view, she writes the best kdrama reviews out there. Have a look and start reading, because she also gives a run down on the song list (OST) for each drama as well and provides the YouTube videos of the songs.

        My favourite kdramas include:

        My Ahjussi (My Mister)
        Crash Landing on You
        Into The Ring
        Mr Sunshine
        Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

        You won’t regret it 😊
