There are two kind of people in the world: those who love french fries and those who lies. I mean, if you don’t like french fries means that either you are allergic of potatoes or you are not a human being. There’s no people in the world who don’t love those little, yellow, crispy and very tasty sticks. But where they come from and why are they so loved?
Well, french fries don’t come from France. And it’s weird, but there’s an explanation:
…The French fry—though indisputably a fry—may not actually be French. Some claim that fries originated in Belgium, where villagers along the River Meuse traditionally ate fried fish. In winter, when the river froze, the fish-deprived villagers fried potatoes instead. It’s said that this dish was discovered by American soldiers in Belgium during World War I and, since the dominant language of southern Belgium is French, they dubbed the tasty potatoes “French” fries…National Geograhic.
They come from Belgium, a place also famous for Chocolate, guns, the beginning of invasion of France by the 3rd Reich and the place where European Union works. It’s a small country, for many people snubbed, but pretty important. God bless Belgium!
Why are they so loved? well, it’s a stupid question, because we all know why french fries are so loved: they are delicious, and everyone can eat them, even vegan, which are the people with the biggest limitation with food. French fries are like being drug addicted: you just can’t get enough ot them. One after the other, one is able to eat a couple of kilos. At least i could…but maybe i am not normal at all! The problem is that a perfect fry is crispy outside, soft and hot inside, not too much salty, with an incredible taste of oil and potato, putting everything on another level. Why is that a problem? Well, the problem is that you just don’t realised how much french fries you eat!! It’s impossible! No matter if you are a toddler or a 80 years old, if you have on the table a mountain of hot and steaming franch fries on the plate, you will not be able to control yourself and, somehow, your mouth will be full.
One says that the simple things are the best ones. Well, it’s right. There’s nothing easier that french fries to be cook: peel the potato, slice them into little sticks, heat the fry oil, wait intil the perfect temperature (170 celsius degrees) is reached, put the sticks in to the hot fry oil, wait five minutes, tke them out, clean the exced oil, salt them and Buon Appetito!
The most fascinating thing it stat French Fries are perfect with everyone: with a Burger, together with a pizza, or with fish (the very famous fish and chips in England). It’s also good with salads, steaks and with almost all the sauces you can think of! They are universal! No matter where you look at french fries, there’s no way you can resist!
Sorry now, but writing about french fries, i’m getting hungry. You know what? Let me slice a dozen potatoes!
